The Great Indian Culinary Challenge | 30th January 2020 | Kolkata
January 30 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
An Industry Benchmark
The Great Indian Culinary Challenge (GICC), an initiative by Express Food & Hospitality to showcase Indian culinary talent is nearly a decade old and is an industry benchmark. GICC was until now being held in the metro cities alongside our HoReCa exhibition, Express Food & Hospitality Expo.
Now we have decided to spread our wings and take GICC to a wider audience of professionals and students especially in Tier 2 and 3 cities where the talent remains unexplored. That is the vision behind The Great Indian Culinary Challenge (GICC) Series
The GICC Live Series
The GICC Live Series will be held in Hospitality Institutes across India, especially in the smaller cities which are food hubs and also home to immensely talented chefs. As a national Media publication, our aim is to nurture the chef community in the country. The strategy to organize the series in Hospitality Institutes is to give students an opportunity to meet and connect with chefs from the industry and have a real-time experience of a Live competition.
The GICC Live Series will be conducted pan India. Some of the initial cities include:
Bhubaneshwar | Ranchi | Shillong | Indore | Lucknow | Chandigarh | Visakhapatnam | Kochi
Parallel to the GICC Live event there will be Masterclasses and Workshops on Food Media, Food Styling & Photography, Culinary Artistry and more.
They are aimed at introducing future chefs and professionals to a world beyond the kitchen. These sessions will be performed by professionals carefully selected by our panel.
Chef As Superhero
A sure sign of a revolution is when art imitates life.
With the advent of films like ‘Salaam Namaste’ 2005, ‘Chini Kum’ 2007, and ‘Chef’ 2017 (for which international rights were purchased), you could say we have a new hero – The Chef.
The next sign? Just look at India’s leading Unicorns – and you will find two food tech companies, Swiggy & Zomato high up on every list.
With the food service industry set to hit INR 5,52,000 crore by 2022, you can be sure Big Finance have their sights firmly on this industry.
