The Maya Boutique Hotel & Spa is the first hotel made of straw, in Europe, self-sufficient in energy, thanks to solar panels and a wood oven. The unique hotel blends modern and traditional materials, offering all the modern comforts of a high ranking hotel.
Situated within a backdrop of greenery in the heart of the Swiss Alps in the Valais, the Maya Boutique Hotel & Spa has been awarded internationally for its unique and innovative concept. The Valais is a Swiss, protected, and private canton, that offers to those who dare venture, a delicate and delicious discovery. Nature there is generous and fills you with a sense of calm and serenity, whilst breathing in the fresh and healthy mountain air, in breathtaking surroundings. The Maya mountain that overlooks the Maya Boutique Hotel, offers an imposing and at the same time, reassuring landscape, that invites escapism.
The conception and realisation of this hotel at the foot of the Maya mountain, was carried out by Lisa and Louis, the owners. Architects are not used to straw construction, even though the quality of life it gives and its low impact on nature, in terms of energy consumption, is exemplary. Natural materials have been privileged, so that nearly 55 tonnes of straw, clay, lime and glass make up the composition of this unique ecological hotel.
The necessary heating, hot water and electricity are produced by the solar panels and wood oven. Thanks to this, the Maya Boutique Hotel & Spa can rely on a low environmental impact and fully respect its owners’ convictions regarding sustainable tourism, ensuring a warm and cosy stay.
The Maya Boutique Hotel & Spa has eight comfortable, cosy and romantic rooms. Each room has a balcony and fantastic views over The Valais and the Alps.
In each room, a different type of wood has been highlighted and the furnishings and settings have been created by a local craftsman. The rooms are themed according to the wood used in it: larch, Swiss stone pine, oak, pear, ash, elm or walnut.
The Maya Boutique Hotel & Spa offers its unique Scandinavian wellness area and the treat of a hot stone or classical relaxing massage.
The traditional sauna has been installed in a barrel to welcome guests in a cocooning atmosphere where one whole side is made of glass to be able to enjoy the landscape over Cran Montana and the Alps. In the wood oven Hot Tub, is another way to enjoy a unique experience in the most breathtaking environment!
