Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has announced the official kick-off of Starwood Cares for the Community Together As One, the company’s second annual global volunteer initiative that benefits the communities in which Starwood operates. During the month of October, Starwood associates will participate in hundreds of unique activities and donate thousands of hours to make a profound difference in communities around the world.
Ken Siegel, chief administrative officer, general counsel and head of global citizenship, Starwood Hotels & Resorts said, “At Starwood, supporting our local communities is part of who we are, and one way we do this is through the generous donation of time and energy that our associates make throughout the year. We launched Together As One last year to support and encourage their volunteerism efforts and to celebrate the positive impact they have throughout the world.”
During last year’s two-week inaugural campaign, Starwood associates globally participated in more than 570 events, volunteering more than 32,000 hours. In 2015, Together As One has expanded to a full month, with activities and special events organised by hotel, office, or region. Some larger events planned for 2015 include:
– “Run to Give” fundraising road race on October 11 for associates from 105 properties across Asia Pacific. Funds raised are supporting local charities.
– The launch of Starwood’s first Road to Awareness North America on October 15, with associates at hotels and offices in the United States and Canada running, biking or using the elliptical machines in their fitness centers to raise money for Clean the World, a nonprofit that recycles hotel amenities and distributes them to those in need.
– The on-going Road to Awareness EAME fundraising campaign taking place year-round in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. The fundraising culminates in two cross-country bicycle races this year with funds going to UNICEF.
Hotels and offices are also encouraged to share their work among associates through celebration boards on-property and through social media using #StarwoodCares.
