Sarovar Hotels & Resorts will be managing The Heron Portico, Nairobi, a three-star property from September 1, 2012. This will be the company’s second hotel in Nairobi after Ole Sereni and the third in Africa, including the New Africa Hotel in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. Anil Madhok, managing director, Sarovar Hotels & Resorts said, “At present we are focusing on expanding in East Africa as we are well versed with this market and we consider it as a second home for our company. We are looking at managing two more hotels in Africa – a 100 room hotel in Nairobi and another hotel by the Game Park. One will be a city hotel dealing with business travellers. The other would be a leisure travel focused property.” With a portfolio of 60 hotels across 40 destinations, in India Sarovar Hotels will be expanding across tier II and tier III cities. “Internationally, only East Africa and Middle East are of interest to us at present,” added Madhok.
