The dynamics of the hospitality industry in 2020
2019 has been an exciting year for hospitality industry both in terms of policy developments and prioritising travel as the number one aspiration by Indians. Slashing of the goods and services tax (GST) rates for luxury hotels and the Government of India’s push to endorse tourism has spurred the demand among travellers.
The industry will see greater momentum in 2020. The business opportunity, growing number of startups, an increase in the millennial workforce will also fuel more business traveller arrivals and the demand for conferences.
In fact, during 2019 we have also witnessed an increase in the number of people opting for staycations. This trend is mainly driven by millennial who want a quick-fix from their busy lifestyle. Bleisure travel and Staycation trends continue to be popular this year. Food & Beverage consumption in the luxury segment shall grow exponentially with discerning diners focusing on experiential dining and bespoke experiences.
The concept of ‘Conscious travel’ is primarily budding and is expected to grow further in 2020. With Responsible and Sustainable Tourism becoming a hot new trend, travellers are expected to connect their travel choices with carbon footprint and environment care.
At Shangri-La, we operate our business responsibly with the aim of improving people’s lives while caring for the environment. Environmental considerations have been fully integrated into the daily operations of our hotels. We aim to achieve a 15 per cent reduction in the energy, GHG and water footprints of our
properties by 2020.
